Starting a YR Club in Your County

Get The Word Out!

  1. Contact the New York State Young Republicans (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Membership Committee Chairman, Regional Vice Chairman)
  2. Contact Senior Party Chairman and Auxiliary Clubs (i.e. College Republicans, Women’s Republicans) Most clubs will have overlapping members.

Determine Location, Time, and Event

  1. Location – Restaurant/Bar or Meeting Room
  2. Time – 6 or 7 p.m. usually works well, convenient for everyone’s work schedule.
  3. Event – Provide Substance! What would make you interested?

First Meeting Ideas

  • Candidates as Speakers
  • Government Officials as Speakers
  • Radio Talk-Show Hosts
  • Debates (various topics)
  • Videos (GOP TV, Presidential Candidates, Crossfire, Educational)
  • Other Topics (Home Schooling, Crime, Taxes, Party Leaders)

Press Releases

  1. Newspaper Calendar or Political Section
  2. Advertise in Newspaper, Radio, or Television
  3. Advertise as Public Service Announcement

Agenda (Keep to 1 hour, max 1.5 hours)

  1. Prayer and Pledge of Allegiance, ask members of audience
  2. Always let guest speakers or event go first, usually 30 minutes
  3. Reading and approval of minutes and agenda
  4. Officer & Committee Reports
  5. Old Business
  6. New Business
  7. Annoucements
  8. Adjournment

First Meeting To-Do

  • Adopt Constitution
  • Set Dues
  • Elect Officers
  • Collect Membership Fees
  • Set Meeting Date and Time
  • Set Cabinet Meetings
  • Chairman send thank you’s
  • Treasurer open account, budget, adopt reimbursement policy

Follow-Up

  • Press Release of Meeting, about speaker and success of starting a new club
  • Thank you notes to those who helped and speaker
  • Write Newsletter
  • Plan Yearly Calendar
  • Plan Cabinet Retreat
  • Network for new members, encourage new ideas
